PILATES

What is pilates?

Pilates is a full body workout that combines flexibility, muscle tone, and strength which was created by Joseph Pilates in the 20th century. Pilates developed in the aftermath of the nineteenth-century physical culture movement. The practice emphasizes core strength, particularly targeting the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, hips, and glutes. Pilates exercises can be performed on a mat or using specialized equipment, such as the reformer, which adds resistance to movements. The key principles of Pilates include concentration, control, centering, flow, precision, and breathing. These principles guide each movement to ensure it is performed mindfully and efficiently. Pilates is often used for rehabilitation purposes, as it strengthens muscles without putting excessive strain on joints.
